In 2005, a few individuals led by Tunde Yussuf began to mute the idea of the NSL establishing a soccer league for children. The idea built a significant bandwagon which led to the NSL Office moving to name a committee to explore the idea.
That committee led by Tunde Yussuf, included Godwin Madueke, Femi Alabi, Uzoma Obi, and Egwuonwu K. Ume. Today, the NSL is at the brink of establishing a little league. This report chronicles the journey towards the NSL Little League.

| The committee met several times to discuss the possibilities for this league. It was clear to the committee that several NSL members had young children from which the league members could be drawn. It was also clear to the committee that youth leagues in the Prince George’s County and surrounding countries of Maryland were relatively expensive. Furthermore, many members had expressed interest in their children learning how to play soccer which is Africa’s favorite sport.
Thus, the committee had to address each of those issues to create a favorable and enabling environment for NSL children.
The next phase of the committee’s work was to call in experts in order to learn more about what it entails to run a Little League. Several experts, including youth coaches such as NSL’s Eldred Abbey, were called in to brief the committee.
It was after this that the committee decided on several principles for the new league. The principles are listed below:
That the league should include both girls and boys That the league should be organized in several age categories: U-5, U-7, and U-9 with girls and boys mixed in each team. That the first event of the league should be a Soccer Clinic under the supervision of youth coach Fryo. That the first phase of the league shall involve registration of interested children whose parents are members of the NSL. A later phase will involve children from the broader community.
The Little League committee continues to meet to finalize other issues pertinent to the success of the league. It is clear that the committee is laying solid grounds for the future success of a youth league.
