The Nigerian Soccer League (NSL) began play in 2002 with four foundation teams – Ogbunigwe FC, Onadrix Rangers, Raccah Rovers, and Youngblood FC. It has grown since then with the addition of Eastern United in 2003, the arrival of Inter Nationale and Enyimba FC in 2005, finally with MoFe Stars SC and Vasco Da Gama in 2006, completing the current nine team league format.

The NSL is designed to provide healthy recreation for adults in the Washington DC metro area. As of 2007, there were close to 250 registered members and over 450 fans who participate in several NSL events.

League play is on Sundays starting usually at 11:30am until early evening when members relax for “After Hours” social events. The season begins in May and runs until late October on an annual basis. Highlights of the season include the Nzenwa Championship Picnic which takes place in September and when the NSL All-Star team “October 1960” travels to play in the All Nigerian Soccer Tournament in October. October 1960 is the current All Nigerian Cup champions after defeating New York in the 2005 tournament in Chicago. There are two NSL competitions played each year – the Nzenwa League Championship and the Nwafor Challenge FA Cup.
In 2008, we added another competition, the Pa Festus Oyeneyin Super Cup, which pits the Nzenwa trophy winner against the Nwafor trophy winner from the previous season and designed to kick off the new season.

The NSL is supported by corporations such as MoneyGram, Western Union, and Safeway, among others. If you will like to join the NSL please contact us as soon as possible.
