Vasco Da Gama and Youngblood eliminated from playoff race! Conference B & C still up for grabs!
Youngblood was stunned and doomed to watching the Nzenwa playoffs from the sideline for the first time in their history when Ogbunigwe leveled the game at 1-1, on a 90th minute penalty kick. Last years' finalists, Vasco Da Gama was also eliminated from the playoffs but have a consolation prize of the first pick in next seasons general draft after their 1-0 loss to Eastern United. In an exciting contest, Mofe Stars were unable to hold off Inter Nationale for the Conference C crown during their 2-2 draw.
The record trend of trades has continued as Enyimba FC completed another blockbuster, this time acquiring striker Benji Marciano from Youngblood FC in exchange for its 2009 2nd round picks in both the General and Supplemental Drafts. Enyimba and Youngblood have been the busiest teams in trade transactions this season. Earlier, Enyimba and Inter Nationale FC finalized a deal that swapped goalkeepers sending Inter's talented Kevin Wong to Enyimba for Taiye Akinmboni. Inter immediately turned around and traded Taiye to Raccah Rovers for defender Ambrose Akenji. In addition, Inter also received Enyimba's 2008 2nd round Supplemental Pick. Raccah Rovers traded their 2nd round pick in the Supplemental Draft to Youngblood for MF Sidi Diarra. Youngblood also traded their top pick, sweeper Emmanuel Ebong to Inter Nationale FC in exchange for Inter's first and second round picks in the 2008 Supplementary Draft. Prior to the beginning of the 2008 season, Young Blood began the moves by acquiring former player defender Obi Ezeogu from Enyimba as part of considerations from a 2007 trade involving F Nze Zesco King..... Eastern United pulled off two key trades. It acquired MF Galidore Ngapeth from Inter Nationale in return for first, second, and third round supplementary picks plus MF Best Jesurobo.... Eastern also moved to trade its second round pick of 2008 MF Alfred Favez to MSSC for MSSC's first pick in the 2008 Supplementary Round....Inter Nationale acquired Richard "Zico" Opanuga from Raccah Rovers in exchange for its 2008 Supplementary first round pick.....Inter Nationale FC has traded defender James Hall to Ogbunigwe in exchange for Ogbunigwe's first round pick in the 2008 Supplementary Draft which is the No. 8 pick overall. Hall, a top defender, was drafted No. 3 in the 2007 Supplementary Draft by Inter but had hoped to be with Ogbunigwe.
Charles "Rude Boy" Oriaku ....
Charles "Rude Boy" Oriaku, one of NSL's colorful players, got his wish as MoFe Stars trade him to Ogbunigwe for a 2008 Third Round pick. Femi Alabi, MSSC Owner said "Rudeboy asked for a trade and I made sure that his wish came through. I wish him the best." Ogbunigwe had given signs of going after Charles Oriaku to help shore up its defense. A week before this trade, Oriaku who was at the time traded from Young Bloods to MSSC, exploded: "I am going to wait it out this year and become a free agent the next (year) so I can play for a team of my choice. Whoever made the deal for me ...bad deal.... obviously (Young Bloods) he got some tricks up his sleeves."
Young Bloods FC had moved him to MoFe Stars SC in exchange for MoFe's third round pick in the 2008 draft. Charles, was one of NSL's top central defenders when he was selected years ago by Raccah Rovers in the first round. However, his temperament has meant that he was always on the move to new destinations. He vowed not to play for the Bloods after a team suspension. MoFe is getting a talented defender who, on his best day, can put any forward under lock and key.
Nov 26, 2007 -- Eastern United has acquired Best Jesuorobo and Chuck Okeke from Enyimba FC in an offseason trade in exchange for Tochi Duhu who now will suit up for Enyimba FC.
